Chapter 163: What was narrated concerning Taqlis on the day of ‘Eid - كتاب إقامة الصلاة والسنة فيها
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ، عَنْ إِسْرَائِيلَ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ عَامِرٍ، عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، قَالَ مَا كَانَ شَىْءٌ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ إِلاَّ وَقَدْ رَأَيْتُهُ إِلاَّ شَىْءٌ وَاحِدٌ فَإِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ كَانَ يُقَلَّسُ لَهُ يَوْمَ الْفِطْرِ .
قَالَ أَبُو الْحَسَنِ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ الْقَطَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ دِيزِيلَ، حَدَّثَنَا آدَمُ، حَدَّثَنَا شَيْبَانُ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ، عَنْ عَامِرٍ، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ، عَنْ عَامِرٍ، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ، حَدَّثَنَا شَرِيكٌ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ عَامِرٍ، نَحْوَهُ .
It was
narrated from ‘Amir that Qais bin Sa’d said:
“There is nothing
that happened during the time of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) except
that I have seen it, except for one thing, which is that Taqlis* was
performed for the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) on the Day of Fitr.
(Three other chains of narration) with similar wording.
*Taqlis means to indulge in celebrations on a festive occasion.
It was
narrated from Ibn ‘Umar that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used
to
set out for the praying place in the morning of the day of ‘Eid,
and a small spear would be carried before him. When he reached the
praying place, it would be set up in front of him, then he would pray
facing it, and that was because the praying place was an open space
in
which there was nothing that could serve as a Sutrah*.
*Sutrah (screen), meaning a barrier of some type.
Chapter 164: What was narrated concerning carrying a spear on the day of ‘Eid - كتاب إقامة الصلاة والسنة فيها
حَدَّثَنَا سُوَيْدُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُسْهِرٍ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، قَالَ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ إِذَا صَلَّى يَوْمَ عِيدٍ أَوْ غَيْرَهُ نُصِبَتِ الْحَرْبَةُ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ فَيُصَلِّي إِلَيْهَا وَالنَّاسُ مِنْ خَلْفِهِ . قَالَ نَافِعٌ فَمِنْ ثَمَّ اتَّخَذَهَا الأُمَرَاءُ .
It was
narrated that Ibn ‘Umar said:
“When the Prophet (ﷺ) prayed
on
the day of ‘Eid or on another occasion, a small spear was set up in
front of him, and he prayed facing it, and the people were behind
him.”
Nafi` said: It is from here that the leaders have taken this practice.
Chapter 165: What was narrated concerning women going out on the two ‘Eid - كتاب إقامة الصلاة والسنة فيها
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ حَسَّانٍ، عَنْ حَفْصَةَ بِنْتِ سِيرِينَ، عَنْ أُمِّ عَطِيَّةَ، قَالَتْ أَمَرَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ أَنْ نُخْرِجَهُنَّ فِي يَوْمِ الْفِطْرِ وَالنَّحْرِ . قَالَ قَالَتْ أُمُّ عَطِيَّةَ فَقُلْنَا أَرَأَيْتَ إِحْدَاهُنَّ لاَ يَكُونُ لَهَا جِلْبَابٌ قَالَ
" فَلْتُلْبِسْهَا أُخْتُهَا مِنْ جِلْبَابِهَا " .
It was
narrated that Umm ‘Atiyyah said:
“The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)
commanded us to bring them (the women) out on the day of Fitr and the
day of Nahr.” Umm ‘Atiyyah said: “We said: ‘What if one of
them does
not have an outer covering?’ He said: ‘Let her sister
share her own
outer covering with her.’”
Chapter 165: What was narrated concerning women going out on the two ‘Eid - كتاب إقامة الصلاة والسنة فيها
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الصَّبَّاحِ، أَنْبَأَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ، عَنِ ابْنِ سِيرِينَ، عَنْ أُمِّ عَطِيَّةَ، قَالَتْ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ
" أَخْرِجُوا الْعَوَاتِقَ وَذَوَاتِ الْخُدُورِ لِيَشْهَدْنَ الْعِيدَ وَدَعْوَةَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ . وَلِيَجْتَنِبَنَّ الْحُيَّضُ مُصَلَّى النَّاسِ " .
It was
narrated that Umm ‘Atiyyah said:
“The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)
said: ‘Bring out the women who have attained puberty and those who
are in seclusion so that they may attend the ‘Eid prayer and (join
in) the supplication of the Muslims. But let the women who are
menstruating avoid the prayer place.”
It was
narrated that Iyas bin Abi Ramlah Ash-Shami said:
“I heard a
man
asking Zaid bin Arqam: ‘Were you present with the Messenger of
Allah (ﷺ) when there were two ‘Eid on one day?’ He said: ‘Yes.’
He
said: ‘What did he do?’ He said: ‘He prayed the ‘Eid
prayer, then he
granted a concession not to pray the Friday, then he
said: “Whoever
wants to pray (Friday), let him do so.”’”
Chapter 166: What was narrated concerning two ‘Eid occurring on the same day - كتاب إقامة الصلاة والسنة فيها
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُصَفَّى الْحِمْصِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا بَقِيَّةُ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، حَدَّثَنِي مُغِيرَةُ الضَّبِّيُّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ بْنِ رُفَيْعٍ، عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ أَنَّهُ قَالَ
" اجْتَمَعَ عِيدَانِ فِي يَوْمِكُمْ هَذَا فَمَنْ شَاءَ أَجْزَأَهُ مِنَ الْجُمُعَةِ وَإِنَّا مُجَمِّعُونَ إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ " .
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ رَبِّهِ، حَدَّثَنَا بَقِيَّةُ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ مُغِيرَةَ الضَّبِّيِّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ بْنِ رُفَيْعٍ، عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ نَحْوَهُ .
It was
narrated from Ibn ‘Abbas that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)
said:
“Two ‘Eid have come together on this day of yours. So whoever
wants, that (the ‘Eid prayer) will suffice him, and he will not
have
to pray Friday, but we will pray Friday if Allah wills.”

Chapter 166: What was narrated concerning two ‘Eid occurring on the same day - كتاب إقامة الصلاة والسنة فيها
حَدَّثَنَا جُبَارَةُ بْنُ الْمُغَلِّسِ، حَدَّثَنَا مِنْدَلُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ بْنِ عُمَرَ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، قَالَ اجْتَمَعَ عِيدَانِ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ فَصَلَّى بِالنَّاسِ ثُمَّ قَالَ
" مَنْ شَاءَ أَنْ يَأْتِيَ الْجُمُعَةَ فَلْيَأْتِهَا وَمَنْ شَاءَ أَنْ يَتَخَلَّفَ فَلْيَتَخَلَّفْ " .
It was
narrated that Ibn ‘Umar said:
“Two ‘Eid came together at the
time of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), so he led the people in prayer,
then he said: ‘Whoever wishes to come to Friday (prayer), let him
come, and whoever wishes to stay behind, let him stay behind.’”
Chapter 169: What was narrated about taking a bath on the two ‘Eid - كتاب إقامة الصلاة والسنة فيها
حَدَّثَنَا نَصْرُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْجَهْضَمِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا يُوسُفُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ الْخَطْمِيُّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ الْفَاكِهِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ الْفَاكِهِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، - وَكَانَتْ لَهُ صُحْبَةٌ - أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ كَانَ يَغْتَسِلُ يَوْمَ الْفِطْرِ وَيَوْمَ النَّحْرِ وَيَوْمَ عَرَفَةَ وَكَانَ الْفَاكِهُ يَأْمُرُ أَهْلَهُ بِالْغُسْلِ فِي هَذِهِ الأَيَّامِ .
It was
narrated from ‘Abdur-Rahman bin ‘Uqbah bin Fakih bin Sa’d,
from
his grandfather Fakih bin Sa’d, who was a Companion of the
Prophet
(ﷺ) that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to take a bath on
the
Day of Fitr, the Day of Nahr, and the day of ‘Arafah, and Fakih
used to tell his family to have a bath on these days.
“The Prophet (ﷺ) was asked
about
the night prayer. He said: ‘Pray two by two, and if you fear
that
dawn is coming, then perform Witr with one Rak’ah.’”
Chapter 172: What was narrated concerning (voluntary) Prayers at night and during the day are two by two - كتاب إقامة الصلاة والسنة فيها
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ رُمْحٍ، أَنْبَأَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ، عَنْ عِيَاضِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، عَنْ مَخْرَمَةَ بْنِ سُلَيْمَانَ، عَنْ كُرَيْبٍ، مَوْلَى ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ عَنْ أُمِّ هَانِئٍ بِنْتِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ يَوْمَ الْفَتْحِ صَلَّى سُبْحَةَ الضُّحَى ثَمَانِيَ رَكَعَاتٍ سَلَّمَ مِنْ كُلِّ رَكْعَتَيْنِ .
It was
narrated from Umm Hani’ bint Abu Talib that on the day of the
Conquest (of Makkah) the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) prayed voluntary
Duha with eight Rak’ah, saying the Salam after each two Rak’ah.
It was
narrated that Muttalib that is, Ibn Abu Wada’ah said:
“The
Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: ‘The night prayers are (to be
offered)
two by two. Say the Tashah-hud after each two Rak`ah, and
raise your
hands in all humility like one who is poor and needy and
say:
‘Allāhummaghfir lī (O Allah, forgive me).’ And whoever does
not do
that, it is imperfect.’”
Chapter 173: What was narrated concerning Qiyam (the voluntary night Prayers) during the month of Ramadan - كتاب إقامة الصلاة والسنة فيها
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بِشْرٍ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ
" مَنْ صَامَ رَمَضَانَ وَقَامَهُ إِيمَانًا وَاحْتِسَابًا، غُفِرَ لَهُ مَا تَقَدَّمَ مِنْ ذَنْبِهِ " .
It was
narrated that Abu Hurairah said:
“The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)
said: ‘Whoever fasts Ramadan and spends its nights in prayer, out
of
faith and in hope of reward, his previous sins will be forgiven.’”
“We fasted Ramadan with the
Messenger
of Allah (ﷺ) and he did not lead us in praying Qiyam
(prayers at
night) during any part of it, until there were seven
nights left. He
led us in praying Qiyam on the seventh night until
approximately one
third of the night had passed. Then on the sixth
night which followed
it he did not lead us in prayer. Then he led us
in praying Qiyam on
the fifth night which followed it until almost
half the night had
passed. I said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, would that
we had offered
voluntary prayers throughout the whole night.’ He said:
‘Whoever
stands with the Imam until he finishes, it is equivalent to
spending
the whole night in prayer.’ Then on the fourth night which
followed
it, he did not lead us in prayer, until the third night that
followed
it, when he gathered his wives and family, and the people
gathered,
and he led us in prayer until we feared that we would miss
the
Falah.” It was asked: “What is the Falah?” He said: “Suhur.”
He
said: “Then he did not lead us in prayer at night for the rest
of the
month.”
